Founded in 1963
Britt music festival was founded in 1963 when conductor John Trudeau and his friend Sam McKinney visited southern Oregon with the idea of founding a summer music festival. They decided that the former hillside estate of Jacksonville pioneer Peter Britt would be perfect for their new concert venue.
The first season featured a wide range of performances in the Rogue Valley. The concerts were free and open to the public.
After the success of that season, Britt continued to thrive. The organization has since expanded its programming to include community and heritage programs, as well as music for children.
In addition to classical music, the festival also presents concerts of jazz and popular music. The organization is funded by donations and grants from individuals and organizations.
